A bit about photogenic models and actors.

"She's very photogenic!"  "Photographers lover her!"  "The camera loves her!"  These are comments that you hear about top models and some actors.  Funny enough you don't have to be beautiful to be photogenic.  Some kids photograph amazingly well in their headshots or modeling portfolio yet they are not that striking or gorgeous in real life. 

Does your child have to be photogenic  to model or act?  The short answer is no.  Modeling for the most part does look for a photogenic face and body, but there are some types of modeling such as editorial that may just want a regular or very normal looking face.  These might be ads for cell phones, insurance or products where they want the audience to relate to the people in the ad.  As for acting many types are needed.  You can see this if you watch TV and film...they are not all beautiful, gorgeous or striking.

A photogenic child may have very fair skin that is translucent or picks up the light very nicely and then translates into a very interesting or striking photo.  Very blonde or red hair often photographs well because it also picks up the light or reflects the light well.  Light eyes and dark hair can look amazing in a portrait or headshot.  A full afro and very, deep, dark skin is gorgeous but I would same the same about light green eyes and mixed ethnic skin tones.  There are so many things that can be gorgeous in a photo, but definitely there are some looks that really stand out and would be considered photogenic. 

Sometimes with kid actors it's just that the face communicates a lot to people...such as lots of freckles and dimples.

Charm and knowing  how to use your body for the camera can have a lot to do with being photogenic.  Often a child or teenage model has a natural ability when in front of the camera and naturally stands or moves well when being photographed.
