Teen Model Posing Tips

I've often seen young girls who are just starting out with modeling, unsure about how to pose.  It doesn't have to be some crazy pose, rather you should look natural.

I recommend sitting or standing in a natural position and then stretching your body out.  For example if you were sitting in front of the television, you may slouch.  A simple way to turn that into a great pose is to stretch and angle.  Notice in the modeling photo below, she is leaning and stretching but in a very natural teen way.

When getting your modeling headshots you want to make sure not to slouch, but rather stretch your body and elongate.  Your modeling or headshot photographer should also guide you if you are new.

Many of your modeling photos will be close ups of your face and eyes.  These are model headshots which the agent may also use to submit you for commercials.  I find a lot of new models tilt the head up or sideways but it's actually better to drop your chin down a bit and or straighten your face towards the camera so your face is clearly seen.  If your head is tilted to high, it will be about your neck and if you drop your chin down a little it will open up and show off your eyes more.  Try it in the mirror.  Notice in the models headshot below her eyes and face are the focus.  She has her chin down a bit and it makes for a great modeling or actor headshot.

Keeping the chin down a little bit in a modeling pose makes for a stronger headshot.  Young teen model smiling actor and model headshot.

When you ask someone to smile for the camera, often they automatically put their head up...it feels more natural.  However, the headshot or photo will be much stronger if you drop your chin down a little bit even and look up with your eyes.  Even if the photographer is a little bit above, it often works better to drop the chin down.  The teen model in the above headshot is doing a fabulous pose, keeping the chin slightly down when smiling for the camera.

Work with your headshot photographer during the photo session to get the right angle and pose which works best with your face.  They will assist you to look your best.
