KIDS HEADSHOTS AND WHAT TO WEAR FOR THE PHOTO SHOOT?
One of the questions that I am often asked as a child model photographer
is "What kind of clothing should I bring to a child model photo shoot?"
That's a great question and I thought I could start by sharing some of
the dont's.
DON'T'S FOR A CHILD MODEL PHOTO SHOOT:
1. Don't bring bold clothing with distracting patterns.
2. Don't bring very baggy and oversized clothing.
3. Don't bring clothes with company logos.
You can clearly see his skin tone, eye color and hair color in this child model photo. |
If those same shoes were in a oversize bag, you wouldn't be able to see them well. With a models portfolio, baggy clothing may hide the child's body type and the casting director may not know if they are a good choice for the shoot.
Also, your photographer doesn't want you to bring clothes with logos to the photo shoot. Logos, like Nike, GAP, JCREW may be in direct conflict with the product that they are seeking models for. Adida's will not want to see prospective models wearing a NIKE t-shirt or that famous swish on the side of the shoes. On a photo shoot set, they may put white tape over the swish to hide this. For the most part you don't have to worry about the shoes as this is a minor detail, but a shirt with a big logo can definitely be a problem for a headshot. A small logo could be photo shopped but ideally you have clothes without logos. Bear this in mind when putting the clothing together for your child's model photo shoot and choose clothes that do not have logos.

In summary, remember that the product an agent is selling is the model,
not the clothing they are wearing. Your child modeling photos are key
to getting cast or getting an audition, so be aware of these basic rules
when you put the clothes together to bring to a child modeling
photoshoot.
In my next post I will go over the "Do's" for a child modeling
photoshoot and provide more examples. In the meantime here is another
example from a child modeling photoshoot and I hope you can use these
child model photographer tips.
A great close up photo from a modeling photoshoot will have no logos, no bold patterns or distracting prints and clearly shows the skin tone, hair and eye color. |
