Kids headshots are not just a picture. An acting headshot is your
child's calling card and a vital marketing tool. Actors can’t survive
without a headshot and the headshot must be a strong photo of the actor
to get noticed. A kids acting headshot is one of the most important tools
which is used throughout a child's acting career. Even young and
established celebrities need a great headshot.

With today’s online casting your kids headshot needs to stand out in a
sea of thumbnails. A casting director views your child's itty,
bitty headshot next to several other child actors, and some of these may
even resemble your young thespian. Casting may look at several hundred to several thousands
kids headshots submitted for the same role in a matter of moments. A
tight, close-up headshot that pops off the page is imperative if you
want your kid to get noticed by casting directors.

Question: What makes a great kid headshot?
Answer: It must look like the actor--AND, there must be some sort of
great communication coming thru. This is all done with lighting,
composition & the ability of the photographer to pull this
communication out with each kid during the headshot session. To view

Kids headshots "siblings"
|
This kid headshot sample shows sibling actors. A current trend with
commercials is to use real siblings, so talent agents appreciate a
headshot with both kids.

Kids headshot "commercial"
|
A kids
headshot must show great energy for commercials. Casting
directors like to know that your child actor is energetic, fun, likeable
and not shy. The above kids headshot is an example of a great commercial
headshot.
There are several different types of kids headshots that will be needed for the portfolio and one of those is called a "theatrical" headshot. A theatrical headshot is used for TV & film casting. With a theatrical headshot you want to see confidence and or soulful eyes. A strong expression without a smile is key. With the theatrical kids headshot you should see communication thru the eyes. Look at the eyes and how
powerful the expression is below. The colors work well in this headshot but what you see is emotion in the eyes. You also see confidence even though she is such a young child. This is an example of a strong "theatrical" kids headshot.
