The baby modeling business is booming like never before.  With all the adorable baby clothing lines, diapers, and baby products comes a need for baby models.  Baby models are needed for magazine ads, internet advertising, TV commercials, feature films and TV shows. 

What do talent agencies want in a baby model?  Of course they do want to see cute babies, but along with this, a good-natured, happy baby is crucial.  A shy baby who clings to mom will not do well as a baby model.  But a baby who is cheerful, smiles a lot and seems to enjoy being in the company of others will do great.  The baby may have to be held by an actress who is playing the part of the child's mom, so if the baby is super shy or afraid of being held by another person, he or she is not really fit for this industry.  It's not surprising that This baby model and actor got a talent agent right after getting his first baby headshots.

Baby model talent agents are often looking for new faces.  Unlike adult models, baby models are constantly needed because children grow up.  Talent agents who represent babies will need new babies, new kids to fill those spots on their roster.

 I don't recommend getting baby headshots until the child is at least sitting up.  The child will change so fast that in a month or two the headshots don't even look like the child.  And honestly I find that different agents have different preferences, but most agents will accept a snapshot of the baby when they are newborn to 6 months.

Updating your kids headshots for episodic TV season.

Episodic season in LA is a time where all the new television shows and the past or ongoing TV series film upcoming episodes which will begin airing soon.  It is a very busy time in Hollywood and a great time to get some fantastic auditions. Episodic season is from August to November.

Child actors can audition a lot during episodic season or things can be dry.  But if it's dry you know one thing...you need to see if you have all the right tools in place.  The very first thing that you need to ensure you have in place is a current acting headshot.  You will need a printed 8x10 headshot and your kids should have current headshots posted to their actors online profiles.


Why is it so important to update your kids headshot

during episodic season?  Because your kids headshot is the first thing a casting director will see when they receive submissions from the talent agent.   Casting directors will see approx 50 kids headshots in thumbnail sizes on each page, as they scroll thru hundreds of child actors who have been submitted for the role.  You want them to stop on your kid's headshot and click it for further information.  At that point they may look at additional headshots that your child has posted.  They may also look at the resume, an actors reel, or notes from the agent.  So your children's headshot is not the only thing that a casting director will see, but it is the FIRST thing they will see.

Make sure to update your kids headshots often!

Congratulations to my client who just signed with a new talent agency after sending in her new headshots!  She is now with a top kids talent agency in Los Angeles and getting ready to go on auditions!  Here are a few of the photos from her headshot session.  Such a cutie pie!
