As a kid's headshot photographer I am so grateful to do what I do.  I meet adorable, talented child actors every week who are pursuing their love of the performing arts.  Some want to act, some want to sing and some want to dance.  Some want it all and excell in all things performing arts.   They always amaze me with their talent, kindness, intelligence and beauty inside and out.  My work is not serious and we are often laughing and playing throughout the entire shoot.   Along with working with these amazing kids,  I get to meet and work with the parents.  And many times I even photograph the parents headshots or the family shots because they are also in the industry.  

This beautiful child actress was no exception.  She did a great job during her acting headshot photography session.  We did four wardrobe changes and different headshot looks.

Kids headshots and what to wear for your acting headshots

Child actors need headshots just like adults.  Even though they are still "kids" this is a business and all talent agents will require you to have headshots.  Most agents would like to see a few different looks.  This means your child actor will be photographed in several different outfits.  Typically child headshots are shot from the chest up, unless they are also a child model.  Here is an example of a young boys acting headshots showing different looks.  The first acting headshot is a "theatrical headshot" for tv and film roles.

Some agents like to see a "skill shot" that they can use to pitch the actor for commercials that require a skill like sports, music, or dance.  If you are very skilled it can be good to add this look to your child's portfolio.

I often work with families who have several kids in the business. When there is more then one child in the family who is acting,  they all need headshots.

It can be expensive to get headshots for two or three kids in one day, but I offer a sibling discount, if all kids are photographed together.  And it can be a bit of work for mom, to get the kids all together, get their wardrobe ready and then spend several hours at the shoot getting the kids headshots.  However...

...spending the time to do three kids headshots on the same day, saves money, because I offer a discount for sibling headshot sessions.  And even though it seems to be a bit of work, it's a lot of fun with the mom or dad and the kids all working together for the same purpose...to get great kids headshots.   And on top of getting each child's individual headshots, we usually do a sibling shot for the agent to use.  These three kids did a recent acting headshot session and it was a great opportunity for the youngest child to learn from her big sisters on being photographed for their acting headshots.
