KIDS HEADSHOTS auditions and bookings!
Kids headshots are key to getting auditions. And auditions lead to bookings! I can't stress enough how important a professional and well done kids headshot
is. This child's headshots helped her get many auditions and bookings for modeling and commercials. And the icing on the cake...she recently got an audition and is now filming a feature film. It's not impossible, but it's definitely hard to get auditions without a professional headshot. A fabulous kids headshot...
will open doors. Your kids headshots must stand out, get the attention of a casting director and show them confidence, charm, personality and their look. Your agent will likely use several different images from your kids headshots. So with this in mind you want to ensure you have a variety of different headshots for them to choose from that will show their ability to play different types.
Kids headshots are vital to success in this business. It's something that you should consider...that this is a business. Show business. Of course, it should be a fun activity for your child just like if they were taking ballet or on a baseball team. And if your child is taking ballet, the teacher or coach will expect you and the child to be a professional...on time for classes and performances, wearing the right outfit, respectful of others in class, and buying the tools of the trade which are part and parcel of that activity. There really is no room for dilattants in this industry, it's much too competitive. As a kid's headshot photographer I am so grateful to do what I do. I meet adorable, talented child actors every week who are pursuing their love of the performing arts. Some want to act, some want to sing and some want to dance. Some want it all and excell in all things performing arts. They always amaze me with their talent, kindness, intelligence and beauty inside and out. My work is not serious and we are often laughing and playing throughout the entire shoot. Along with working with these amazing kids, I get to meet and work with the parents. And many times I even photograph the parents headshots or the family shots because they are also in the industry.

Just did some new acting headshots for Elle. An spunky and fun little four year old actress.

Child Headshot Session
Here are some acting headshots with a recent aspiring actress and model. This beautiful child has amazing eyes, creamy skin and a beautiful smile. Her actor headshots will be used to meet with a talent agent for both acting and modeling. When meeting prospective child actors, a talent agent will ask you to bring an 8x10 acting headshot. I always feel privileged to photograph young actors. They have so much personality and typically we laugh a lot and play around.
This session was no different and Austin did a wonderful job for such a young age. It takes some patients for a boy to be photographed because I often need them to hold still to get the shot, but still be natural and in good communication with the camera. His headshots turned out great and he has plenty of looks for both acting and modeling.

Had such a great time with Mathew during his headshot and modeling photo session. A very talented young dancer and a Michael Jackson impersonator! He even did a Michael Jackson dance and routine for me.
I love that his mom brought such a great selection of cheerful colors for his headshots. Young kids should have plenty of colorful options for their headshots because the image really pops and it is very age appropriate. A recent photo session with a child model and actress.
I love bright colors on young kids for acting headshots. This is a classic example of a great kids headshot. Gorgeous, full smile, smiley eyes, beautiful color for her skin & hair. The agent chose this as a main commercial headshot and it will also be part of her modeling portfolio.
Here's a sample of a fabulous "theatrical" headshot kids headshot. Theatrical headshots are for TV & Film castings. A serious photo like above is used for drama type roles. This photo also works well for a child model portfolio.

As you can see make up for a kids headshot or child modeling session should be very, very natural. Little to no make up is best for child models or child actors. She is not wearing make up. Many kids have such nice wonderful color in the skin tone & lips, so sometimes no make up is needed. Typically For Child models and child actors, I like a little bit of clear mascara, lip gloss or Burts Bees Tinted Lip Balms and maybe a very light dusting of mineral based powder. The one I like is from Mac Cosmetics.

Here's a couple of kids headshot samples from recent sessions. One of these kids got an agent with their new headshots and one is working actor who just needed to update their headshots. Both of the kids headshots posted are a good example of different looks. With kids and teen headshots I normally shoot different looks.
